Preparing for the Construction Industry
The Lincolnshire Showground played host to Lincoln Construction Week 2019 this month and The Preparation Group once again promoted surface preparation, the specialist trade that hails from the local area and contributes a huge amount to the industry. The event was sponsored by CITB and run by the LGTA (Lincoln Group Training Association) and Lincolnshire & Rutland EBP and brought together children from across the county to learn about vocational opportunities in construction.
Says Lesley Collins, Business Development Manager; ‘We did something different this year. We worked closely with Paul Gaze from the HAE (Hire Association Europe) and as part of their ongoing initiative in raising standards for machine operator safety, they produced a virtual reality experience for our Scraper machine. The HAE has gained funding, so the VR experience will be rolled out to the whole of the hire industry. Through the VR, the children were introduced to how advancements in technology will assist future health & safety.’
Continues Lesley; ‘We also displayed a range of our surface and floor preparation, removal and finishing machines and laid on other interactive activities including a model of our Scraper that the children had to assemble. Our knowledgeable staff introduced a diverse and interesting range of career options that our specialist trade offers.’
Says Tracey Glew, The Preparation Group’s Managing Director; ‘As part of the team that developed the Surface Preparation NVQ for our industry 10 years ago, we appreciate the significant impact that training has for both individuals and companies. To be able to increase awareness of work opportunities and apprenticeships at Lincoln Construction Week is vital to secure the future of practical skills. It is an important message to relay to school children when considering their future work choices.’
