PPC Purchase New Efficient Vehicle Fleet Feb 2011

As part of The Preparation Group's procurement policy to reduce the environmental impact of products and services whilst achieving best value, it has switched to a new fleet of 7.5 tonne Fuso Canter Trucks.

The new fleet of 5 vehicles, which are used to transport equipment to and from sites all over the U.K., benefit from a 500kg-per truck payload advantage and are all powered by low-emission 180hp 3.0-litre diesel engines that meet not only Euro 5 emissions limits but also the more stringent – and voluntary – EEV (Enhanced Environmentally-friendly Vehicle) standard.

The trucks have a new bolder design in line with The Preparation Group's re-branding. Four of the new trucks have been fitted with box bodies, tail-lifts and on-board generators fuelled from 90-litre tanks, which power the surface preparation equipment used by PPC's Contracting operatives, while the fifth has a beavertail curtainsider with a powered back door that also serves as a ramp.

"The 7.5-tonne Canter's unrivalled carrying capacity has given us a payload on the box-bodied trucks of 3.6 tonnes," says Managing Director Tracey Glew. "That's about half a tonne more than we could get on our previous vehicles and, as some of our plant and equipment is very heavy, represents a significant improvement in productivity and efficiency."

"Weight was certainly a key issue, but we were equally very conscious of the need for reliability in order to best serve our customers – as well of our fuel costs and of the environmental compatibility of our new vehicles" Says Tracey. "The Canter enjoys an excellent reputation for reliability and durability and has competitive fuel consumption figures alongside its low-emission engine."
